Yes, Merlot! I had the pleasure of making this special "memorial wine" in honor of Susan Marie with intensely characterful grapes grown in beautiful Bennett Valley,in Sonoma County by very dear friends Brett Raven and Diane Kleinecke. It became clear in 2021, due to the Caldor Fire, that I wouldn't be able to produce any estate reds. Fortunately, Brett and Diane had Merlot grapes available, and knowing the wine would become a unique fundraising wine for Pancreatic Cancer research in memory of Susan Marie, they generously donated the grapes, and the 2021 Susan Marie Merlot was born! I'll make a personal donation to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) with proceeds from sales of this memorial wine.

I describe it as one foot in the Old World and the other in the New. Youthful, bright, distinctly red fruited aromas with hints of espresso bean and spice box. Bright, snappy cherry flavors wrapped in dark chocolate with pretty oak, and chalky tannins on the long finish. Pretty now, with medium weight elegance and all the
regal character of Merlot. Bottled without filtration. Delicious!
