2023 Viognier - Estate Bottled

2023 Viognier - Estate Bottled

94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck / Virginie Boone: "The 2023 Viognier was made from a longer growing season with less drama in the region than 2022 or 2024. Pretty, medium-bodied, and floral, it was given the time it needed to coalesce on the vine, offering impressive structure while remaining fresh in moderate acidity. Complex, complete, and expressive in white peach and graham cracker, it exudes the stoney mineral of the high-elevation estate site and should continue to develop over the next 10 years."

93 Points, Decanter magazine: "From the Fair Play sub-AVA of El Dorado County in the Sierra Foothills of western California, this wine comes from grapes grown at 732 metres, planted in 1997 atop rock-strewn decomposed granite. It undergoes full malolactic fermentation and is bottled unfiltered. Highly aromatic, it offers overripe Meyer lemon drizzled with wildflower honey and toasted almonds. Those same aromatics carry through on the palate, layered atop vanilla meringue and framed by lemony acidity, white peach, and a building, mouth-coating satiny richness. A truly intriguing and complex white."

My Words:  Our estate-grown Viognier reflects the unique granitic soils of our high-elevation estate vineyard.  Vibrant aromas of white peach, honeysuckle, and Meyer lemon lead to stone fruit, balancing acidity and our signature minerality.  Fermented and aged in a mix of stainless steel and French oak, this Viognier showcases a supple mouthfeel and a lively freshness.     I love this with spicy seafood, or shellfish, and especially bombastic cheeses.  Farmed organic, bottled without filtration.
