Gen Z Wine Guy review posted April 2026:
The Pour: This selection from El Dorado pours a medium ruby hue with aromas of black cherry, sage, thyme, pine, clove, and a hint of strawberry.
The Sip: It's not every day I reach for a Mourvèdre, but this one really stood out. It's refreshing for a red and can even be enjoyed slightly chilled. It drinks effortlessly, showing soft, plush tannins, balanced acidity, and a lightly weighted body. On the palate, the wine coats nicely, allowing both black and red fruits to shine while subtle spice notes linger on the back end.
The finish was a highlight—it extends gracefully, leaving behind touches of sweet spice and strawberry. If you enjoy lighter, more approachable red wines, this is a great expression from the golden hills of El Dorado. Cheers!
My Notes: Planted on our estate vineyard in 1997, this is the first-ever varietal bottling of our Mourvèdre. In Cedarville’s early vintages, this fruit played a quiet supporting role in blends, and from 2007 through 2022 we were proud to sell these grapes to our friends at La Clarine Farm.
A true late-ripening grape, Mourvèdre tested our patience in 2023. We harvested at 21 Brix—fully mature, and literally one day before autumn swept in and the vines let go of their leaves. Whole clusters were carefully sorted into half-ton bins for fermentation, then pressed into neutral French oak for a 21-month élevage. The wine was finished with a light filtration and bottled under Stelvin closure at a graceful 11.7% alcohol.
The result is bright, lively, and red-fruited —a wine that feels delightfully unpretentious yet quietly sophisticated. Refreshing with a slight chill, it’s a uniquely charming and distinctive expression of our vineyard.
