Growing high quality Cabernet Sauvignon grapes at a mountainous
2500 feet elevation is a rewarding challenge. There is great
potential to make serious Cabernet Sauvignon from the Sierra
Foothills, but it requires paying meticulous attention to the
vineyard, picking the grapes at physiological maturity, and managing
those mountain tannins. We are already rather fanatic about
these matters, and we think it shows in our 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon.
Estate Vineyard Block: East, West, and Creekside Blocks on a
South facing slope
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
14.4% alcohol
Price: $27.50
Cases Produced: 399
Tasting Note: concentrated blackberry, black cherries, cocoa
and cedar in the aromas. Layers of fruit unfold as the wine
airs, and the wine's flavors are deep and rich, with soft tannins
on the finish. This is a big wine, for sure, yet it is showing
very well now and certainly has the structure to reward aging.
