You'll hear a lot about the 2001 vintage for Cabernet Sauvignon in California it is widely considered to be a fantastic vintage for this noble grape. Here at Cedarville, we experienced an early bud break, a mild summer and a long warm autumn, so the grapes ripened thoroughly. We are very careful to keep the crop load low in our Cabernet vineyard, and to make sure the grape clusters are exposed to dappled sunlight to develop ripe flavors. This requires thinning shoots, pulling leaves and dropping crop, all of which are labor intensive and expensive. We think the results are worth it. Our 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon is, in our humble opinion, the most significant wine we made in the 2001 vintage, and perhaps to date here at Cedarville Vineyard. Those of you who have tasted this wine from barrel while visiting Cedarville know what we're talking about: big, ripe, thick a level of Cabernet Sauvignon rarely seen here in the Sierra Foothills.

Estate Vineyard Block: East, West, and Creekside Blocks on a South facing slope

14.4% alcohol

Price: $27.50

Cases Produced: 472

Tasting Note: Aromas of blackberry, currants, cedar, and espresso along with the deep, dark, sense of a wine of great scale. Flavors of ripe blackberries, cherries and chocolate follow in the mouth, with creamy oak and sweet tannins on the long finish. Layers of fruit open up as the wine airs. This is a big, decadent wine that is showing well now, and has the structure to reward aging.
