Zinfandel is the signature grape of the Sierra Foothills. Our oldest
blocks of Zinfandel were planted in 1993, using old clone budwood from the
nearby historic Higgins Vineyard, which at 70+ years was the oldest
remaining pre-prohibition vineyard in the El Dorado appellation. The old
Higgins Vineyard is now in disrepair, so we are the only vineyard now
producing wine from this heritage clone.
We are very proud to have cuttings from our vineyard selected by the
Heritage Vineyard Project for planting in their Vineyard in Oakville.
Many of you are familiar with this project because is it partially funded
by ZAP (Zinfandel Advocates and Producers).
Our Zinfandel is head trained and spur pruned a traditional training
method which reduces yields, enhances ripening, and makes for those great
looking gnarly vines.
