The legend of how our tiny town got its name goes something like this: Back in the early 1850's, during the beginning days of the Gold Rush on the streets of our soon-to-be-named village, a gun battle was averted when a bystander shouted "the rules of fair play apply here!” Fast forward to a tamer present-day Fair Play, where we've always wanted to make a big red blend to express the dark fruited character of our appellation. Petite Sirah is the obvious place to start for big dark fruit, and Zinfandel is a natural to blend with Petite. In the 2012 vintage they tasted so good together that The Rules of Fair Play blend was born. The blend is 60% Zinfandel from our Estate and 40% Petite Sirah from Naylor Vineyard, and of course, all grown here in Fair Play. It's a big and bold wine, with Kona coffee and fresh blackberry aromatics, and dark chocolate, black pepper, root spices and creamy oak flavors. Silky tannins linger on the long finish. Unique and exceptionally tasty! Bottled without filtration, 6 bottle limit.
